The Colo-Comfort Story

My father, Lloyd Winkler, was the Postmaster for over 30 years in the small Midwestern town of Granville, North Dakota. He should have been nick-named “Mr. G-Ville” considering his involvement with the community of Granville! He loved that little town, and that little town loved him.

After Lloyd retired from the Post Office, he was diagnosed with colon cancer. Following the surgery to have his colon removed, my father was fitted with a colostomy pouch. Like thousands of others with the same condition, Lloyd retracted from the public, even his closest friends and family. After failed attempts by family members urging him to “start living again,” we developed the Colo-Comfort family of products. Lloyd was the first to use the “prosthesis” Colo-Comfort pouch and regained his confidence and his life! Golf became his passion, he even started playing softball again! He would go fishing with his buddy, Gary...shirtless! The Colo-Comfort became Lloyd’s “support group,” his “confidence,” his “freedom!” Lloyd gained a new-found loving and caring attitude, especially with his grand-children. He felt very comfortable holding them while wearing his Colo-Comfort.

Unfortunately, Lloyd lost his battle with colon cancer. However, my father showed his strength and character by dedicating himself to the challenge of living life with a colostomy pouch. His legacy will live on forever, not by his years of service with the Post Office, but by his remarkable ability to use his strength and new found freedom provided by his Colo-Comfort to overcome his fears and insecurities caused by his colostomy. I am proud of my father for gaining back the freedom he deserved!
